How an Auto Policy is built

Mandatory Coverage

Florida law requires Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Property Damage Liability (PDL). PIP covers medical expenses for you and your passengers, no matter who's at fault, while PDL covers damage to someone else's property.

Additional Coverage
to Protect You

Florida doesn't require Bodily Injury Liability (BIL), but adding it protects you financially if you cause injuries in an accident. Uninsured Motorist Coverage is also recommended to safeguard you against uninsured or hit-and-run drivers.

Optional Coverage for
Peace of Mind

Enhance your protection with optional coverages like Collision, which pays for repairs to your car after an accident, and Comprehensive, which covers damages from theft, weather, or other non-collision events.

FLORIDA REQUIREMENTS

What the state asks of every driver.

Florida auto insurance policies must adhere to specific state requirements to ensure all drivers maintain adequate financial responsibility.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Failure to maintain required coverage can result in suspension of driving privileges, vehicle registration, and fines up to $500.

Continuous Coverage

Insurance must be maintained without lapse throughout the vehicle's registration period, even if the vehicle is not in use.

Proof of Insurance

Drivers must carry proof of insurance and present it upon request by law enforcement or during vehicle registration.

Mandatory Coverage

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) provides a minimum of $10,000 for medical expenses and lost wages, regardless of fault. Property Damage Liability (PDL) requires at least $10,000 for damage caused to another person's property.

Optional Coverages

Bodily Injury Liability protects against claims if you're responsible for injuries to others. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist offers protection in an accident with a driver lacking adequate insurance. Collision and Comprehensive protect your own vehicle.

PIP IS STILL MANDATORY IN FLORIDA

Two bills to repeal it have died in committee.

Why this matters to you. If PIP is ever repealed, your health insurance becomes your primary medical coverage after an accident, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage becomes even more critical than it already is. We track every session and will tell you before anything changes.
